Twitter is definitely the watercooler experience for me, and I know I enjoy it, and some students end up interacting with me at Twitter (I keep a separate Twitter account for my class stuff: @OnlineMythIndia)... but I'm not sure that many of my students are really looking for the watercooler in a Gen. Ed. class, although I'm guessing that IS something they are looking for in a major class, for example, where they are likely to know other people in class from other classes they've had, etc. But especially with campus life as we knew it being unavailable in Fall (my school is emphasizing face to face classes in classrooms, which is worries, and obviously the rest of campus life won't be the same either), I think I might be more up-front about inviting students to Twitter IF they want to do that, in addition to our blog-space encounters. This Fall is definitely going to be so different, even for someone like me who always teaches online... and the more I can brainstorm now, the better. I definitely want to keep pondering the watercooler! :-) Laura Gibbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994025992373244815noreply@blogger.com
